Is it normal not to get your period when breastfeeding? I have done 4 pregnancy tests and all are negative, I thought this may be the reason. And also any tips to dry up my milk. My baby isn't getting full off of it and she perferes the bottle and cereal.

Absolutely!  I breastfed Karson for 13 months...I didn't have a period for 11 of those months.  But be careful, because you are still fertile!

Oh and to dry up milk, I stuck cabbage leaves in my bra when we quit nursing and it worked like a charm.  I stank like cooked cabbage because the warmth and milk kind of cooked it (I know ewww) but it dried me up! lol

Totally agree with the no period statement.  As for drying up, I don't have any tricks.

I will say this though, it may not happen right away and while you may not leak any milk you may feel full at times after you have stopped nursing.  At least that was my experience.  Smile

I didn't get my period the entire time I nursed my baby.  Also-  break feedings slowly.  You can shorten the feeding time and then supplement with a bottle-  your body will not make as much.  Or take away a feeding every couple of days.  Don't go too fast-  you can get engorged or worse mastitis-  SP?

A lot of women don't get their period while they breast feed. My sister in law knew when she finially got hers she needed to start using formula because with her first that was a sign she was not getting enough milk made. With me I still get to deal with that lovely issue and I still can breastfeed. It depends on the woman, you shoudl be fine though!

I wasn't as lucky as some of the ladies here!  I got my period right away despite breastfeeding, and I had plenty of milk.  The family referred to me as the "milk truck"!Laughing

I didn't have any problems when I  stopped nursing. I had been steadily gaining weight,(again, not so lucky to lose as most people do while nursing), so I cut back  my calories, (I was eating about 4000 a day to keep up with milk production), my doctor said I didn't need to be eating that much.  I disagreed with him, but since my baby was almost a year I agreed to reduce my calorie intake.  It took about 2 days eating 2000 calories a day, and only nursing at night time  before there wasn't a drop of milk left.  My doctor was wrong, but my baby was healthy, happy, and really reading to begin with regular milk.Smile

Best Wishes...

I just stopped breastfeeding myself and crazy as it may be I just put him on the bottle, and stopped cold turkey.  He did fine and as for milk production, I was sore for about two days, and wore pads in my bra for a week and eventually all leaking ceased.  Good Luck!!!Laughing

I didn't have a period while I was breastfeeding. As for drying up the milk, I have heard that putting cabbage leaves on your boobs can help with the discomfort. When I quit breastfeeding, it took about a week for my milk to completely dry up. As long as you don't express it, your body will gradually stop making it.

if you have to stop cold turkey cabbage leaves are best. jst say home for a day to keep smell to yourself. If not just wean. Like only feed at nap time and bed time. then stop completely. Shouldn't be difficult on you at all.onthe other subject. I didn't geta period until I started weaning to just 2-3 times day.you can stillget pregnant, but I didn't. But becareful! I got pregnnt after just my 2nd period. Goodlcksweetie for you and baby
