Part 2 of my Heart Disease feature is now online. It is a very informative piece that examines ways in which to know if you are at risk and how to help prevent. Please read this feature, as it is extremely important.

Jyl Steinback, "America's Healthiest Mom", will have a new feature on more ways to prevent heart disease up later this week. We will let you know when it is up.

Read Part 2 of Lorraine's feature no ...

Also, I just read this. I thought it was very relevant to our topic!

Good news for slackers: naps can help the heart
Daytime snooze cuts risk of fatal heart attack by 37 percent, study finds

CHICAGO - New research on napping provides the perfect excuse for office slackers, finding that a little midday snooze seems to reduce risks for fatal heart problems, especially among men.

In the largest study to date on the health effects of napping, researchers tracked 23,681 healthy Greek adults for an average of about six years. Those who napped at least three times weekly for about half an hour had a 37 percent lower risk of dying from heart attacks or other heart problems than those who did not nap.

The researchers said naps might benefit the heart by reducing stress, and jobs are a common source of stress.

Recent studies have shown that petting dogs reduces stress. How about going to the local Animal Shelter or Humane Society and volunteering to walk/pet/play with dogs? You will benefit and so will they. Don't forget to bring some healthy treats, too.
