Be Prepared; Mommytalk.Com Shares Expert Advice On How To Prepare For Emergencies

Whether it's a minor car accident, a child drowning or a home invasion, June's "Seeing, Sharing, Supporting" covers it all with a focus on emergency preparedness

PHOENIX - (May 31, 2007) - During the month of June, Mommytalk.com will bring members and site visitors expert advice and tips on how to best prepare for emergencies, with the month's "Seeing, Sharing, Supporting" focus on Emergency Preparedness. Articles from experts at Bug Out Bagz, Phoenix Children's Hospital, a trained EMT and a police officer will illustrate the types of things one can do every day to prepare for an emergency.

"There are some vital things that families should be doing to prepare for all kinds of emergencies," said Travis Moss, CEO and President of MommyTalk.com. "From minor car accidents to destructive hurricanes, there are ways that you and your family can be prepared for almost anything."

Emergency situations can happen at any time, any where. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), there were around 3,500 unintentional drownings in the United States in 2006. Another alarming statistic: the U.S. Fire Administration says that in 2005, U.S. fire departments responded to 381,000 home structure fires.

"There are many ways you can prepare for an emergency, said Jeff Lewis, owner of Bug Out Bagz, a company that provides emergency preparedness products for professionals and the general public. "For instance, everyone should have an emergency plan for home, school and work. Parents should call their children's schools and ask for a copy of the school's emergency plan. Families should also regularly check their first aid kit, non-perishable food supply, water supply and communication plans. These are just a few of things that one can do to ensure that they are always prepared."

Mommytalk.com features original content on the site's "Seeing, Sharing, Supporting" page each week throughout the month of June, sharing vital information from key emergency preparedness experts. While anyone can view the site's information at any time, members of the site are able to post questions, share information and win prizes; membership is free.

Seeing, Sharing, Supporting highlights a new topic each month, concentrating on issues like cancer, domestic abuse, child obesity, depression, and more. Each month, several articles from a variety of subject matter experts are featured on the site, discussing warning signs, treatment, how to obtain help or reach out to someone else, and more. Members are able to connect and share their stories with each other in the site's popular open forum discussions.
