Interviewing a MommyBlogger

by Susan Lindgren

No matter what you call it, moms who blog are all the rage. From being courted by PR firms to starting their online businesses moms are it! What once served as a virtual scrapbook, mom blogs are now a springboard for moms into other business opportunities. We will take some time to look at three different Mommybloggers and how their blogs have helped them succeed. Deanna, Melissa and Allison, three different moms, three different bloggers.

Deanna is a new mom and new to the blogging world with her blog Mommy's Idea. Taking time off from her teaching career to have her son, Deanna also started her online business, Ellie Bags, which launches today. Blogs are a great way to connect with like-minded moms, and Deanna is doing that and much more!

How has blogging helped you with the start of your online business?

I'm learning very quickly that blogging is a very powerful tool. The best part is that It has given me a "home base" where people can learn more about us, find information, and connect with us in other online venues like facebook and twitter. I love that I'm building a community where you start to get to know the people you're interacting with. The response so far has been tremendous!

What are your goals with blogging and with your new business?

I'm a mom with an idea, and I want to share what I've learned with others. Mommy's Idea is a place where people can learn a little about us and keep up with the growth of the business.

My goal in writing my blog is to show a more personal side to my business and create a central location for all things Ellie Bags. I also want to highlight other moms and do my part to promote them. There are some fantastic women out there with some really great ideas.

One of my favorite things about blogging is hearing from the people who are joining us on this adventure. It's so exciting to see the comments and meet new people. If you are so inclined, you are welcome to leave a comment or two.

What is off limits, what is fair game?

I'm learning as I go with this whole blogging adventure. My entries so far have mainly been about starting a business and meeting other mom entrepreneurs. I also plan to share my experience with the growth of the business, what I learn along the way, and a little about my sweet inspiration - my son. It's a shame, but you do have to be careful about the details you give. So I'm happy to share about my family, but it will be the online version. We would love to hear from you! Please join us on this amazing adventure!

Deanna is not just blogging to help her succeed but to help other moms succeed. Giving moms with a simple idea a birds eye view of starting their own online business.

Stay tuned next week when we interview Melissa Tuttle. Melissa's blog, A Box of Chocolate, went from a simple way to connect with family to being an Alltop blog.
