Star Talk, Oct 8

by Philip Sedgwick

Star Talk, Week of October 6, 2008

No doubt you feel it. The edgy, evocative, excitable Mars joins sensual Venus in the sign alleged to be the sexiest - or sexually focused - Scorpio. Wait! There's more. Scorpio and Venus can be all about money. Yes, the economy unravels faster than a cheap sweater snagged on a diamond ring. At the same time, the regenerative attribute of Scorpio enters everyone's awareness. The battle cry about money: Let's Get It Back! The motto of intimate relationships: More is Better. Mercury is retrograde. Yes again. It does seem every time you turn around Mercury is retrograde and you have to watch what you say, write in e-mail or blip out in a text message. True that too. Maybe it's like the holiday spirit. What a better world it would be if such compassion and tolerance last the whole year through. Given at least three reminders from Mercury per year to tend to our communication p's and q's, what if we maintained impeccability in our words, howsoever rendered, at all times? With Mars and Venus in Scorpio, it's guaranteed that no one wants any communication to go awry. God forbid someone might incorrectly perceive the intent of what you intimate. That word is too close to intimate for comfort.

ARIES (March 21-April 19)

Rock on. Your ruler just crossed the line of his other natural place in your chart - Scorpio. Talk about crossing lines! While it's your specialty to cross lines, a tad of discernment about which lines in the sand need to be rubbed out goes a long way. Take on battles only that grant you a win if you win. There's no point in wasting your energy, especially in today's economy. If you turned some of the principled exceptions you sense in life and applied them to a constant burn under the career pot on your stove, you'd be in such a different place in three years. Yeah, that's a long time - heck, five minutes is a long time to you - but if you use your inner surge you start a campaign of victorious professional pursuits. Fight no battles for the kids they can handle on their own. As far as your mate goes, the Scorpio planets insist you find you fire and generate all the sparks you like.

TAURUS (April 20-May 21)

Given you've reestablished a lovely flow of interactive goodies, feelings thicken. All reactions run brighter, clearer, deeper and with an evocative ecstatic quality. If you'll notice, you can hardly contain yourself, yes? Terrific! Take the energy and do something with it. You can engage in activities with your partner that you've discussed doing for months, but decided to defer to some intangible time when you know things will be okay. That time, if you notice, keeps pushing out ahead. Seize the energy you have rolling. Sit with your mate and create a plan for prosperity that does not ebb and flow with mainstream economy. Perhaps you'll locate a joint venture to enjoy that heightens the passion flow of your relationship. Of course, inner reserve reminds you, all this good you and yours pursue solely intends to secure the nest and make home perfect and safe for the kids.

GEMINI (May 22-June 21)

With your ruling planet seemingly backing up, take notes. Before you speak, think. This is a mandatory safety check. Ensure the words you choose match what you intend to say, line up in emotional intent and have no possibility whatsoever to be misconstrued. You don't want to come off like a flirt or a gossip or known for scathing criticism. Keep the word output to a minimum and address every question without rambling, changing topics or waxing poetic. Any of those options look like you can't help yourself from taking off on tangents and inspire wonder as to what, if anything, you're hiding behind that silver tongue of yours. It would be of benefit to realize that in times like these others project onto your comments, too. If you noted that your daughter's social studies teacher is hot, the length of your visit with said teacher during a scheduled conference turns into a certain affair. Dang those rumors and gossip. Keep such comments to yourself, or you can share such a speculation with your mate but only if you intend to jump right into a demonstration of you're my one and only.

CANCER (June 22-July 22)

It's getting easier. Honest it is. Can you trust in the emotional relief you feel without anticipating that another shoe might drop in another room in a completely unexpected quarter? That would be your job, like it or not. Creative surges ripple through your being. When one ripple meets another ripple, the amplitude of the creative wave increases, right? Feel that too. Given your natural instinct to defer to others or apply any good to those relying upon you first, apply the slightest hint of healthy self-stinginess. Cut yourself some slack, time and a minimum budget to do what you really need to do for you. If your inner being calms, it finds more time to invoke your natural talents, skills, creative attributes. This goes far beyond starting work on the Halloween costumes, Thanksgiving centerpiece or holiday light so far head of schedule. You could ponder a seasonal decorating gig as this year closes. This year, more than most, people will need to dive into the holiday spirit. You can help.

LEO (July 23-August 22)

When it comes to home improvements, energizing family meetings or tightening the nest, take the lead. Be a good example of engaging action. Enough talk. When an idea comes up, forgo lengthy discussion and get the ball rolling. Whether you want to put fun back in family or do a minor fix-up project, get it started. Let's say the leaves covering the lawn whisper in your spouse's ear for you to get out the mower and suck them into the mower's mulch bag. Neither of you want to drive to the gas station for mower gas. Grab a rake and go to it. Create some mountainous piles of leaves. Since the whole idea of jumping in a pile of leaves might seem alien in the era of mulch bags, you'll have to be the first to grab a running start and take a tumble. Before you know it, everybody joins in. When you're done with frolicking, everyone can join in a game to see who can cover the most trees' roots with leaves so they can withstand the winter. Top it off with some cider and a treat and you've created a day everyone will talk about for weeks.

VIRGO (August 23-September 22)

It's time to give everyone a clue. You can submit a three-page proposal for a gazillion dollar bailout and you can't expect everyone to sign on with insufficient information. With your ruler retrograde, others feel the passion surging inside you and they know you feel summoned or divinely guided to follow some invisible signposts. Let others know what you're thinking, where you're headed and what you hope to accomplish. You might hear support and receive enthusiastic comments from willing volunteers. Perhaps you do not need to proceed on your own and in isolation. How cool is that? Given Mercury retrograde and your high standards of task completion, any volunteers - or compensated co-conspirators - must have a detailed doctrine of what must be done and when it must be completed and to what standards. With that everyone goes home happy. And when you go home happy, let the naughty-bad part of you out to play in such a good way.

LIBRA (September 23-October 22)

True to her/his nature, any Libran feels discombobulated when money matters swing out of balance. Even if your nest egg is secure and you and your family have no immediate economic concerns, establish three contingency plans for catastrophes you'll probably never encounter. These plans include a cash stash, a pantry full of consumables that do not expire, a family project of planting a garden come next spring and a resolve to ensure that no crisis ever impacts the free flowing and healthy expression of emotion within the family. That complete, explore your personal talent kit. When everyone is gone doing whatever, pull it out and spread all of these attributes on the floor. Sit with each and imagine what you might be able to do that contributes to increasing economic well being and makes you feel far more fruitful in your everyday life. Put a couple of pieces of your fruit on the scales and watch the equilibrium return. With the feeling of foundation firmly beneath your feet, you know what to do. Despite everything, the love energy saturates the air. Breathe deep. Leap toward the love of your life and link up.

SCORPIO (October 23-November 22)

Ignition! Blast off!! The space vehicle has cleared the tower. This is what you've been waiting to hear. Though Mercury is retrograde, life does not stop. Other planets power you beyond minor communication nuisances. Be potent, not overbearing. Be confident and not ridiculously bombastic. Be tractable and not hard-lined. Be passionate and focus your fervor into your work and into your mate. You've got several strong weeks ahead. You can re-stake lost terrain. You can re-pitch old ideas; you can pitch new ideas. What causes your ideas to catch is the directing energy you apply to whatever you do. Given the shock waves and lost tracking feeling most people have felt in the real world, those who appear with momentum and a mission gain the support of those wondering what comes next. You come next - in all its finest applications.

SAGITTARIUS (November 23-December 22)

For no evident reason, your optimism moves up a few rungs on the ladder. Nothing notable changed that you can figure. Somehow the quality in the air feels better, almost as if a second surge of refreshing autumnal breezes clear the air. Go with it. The most important matter: resist the instinctive urge to change anyone's mind about anything. Think of it this way, you know how you despise interactions when you feel others fail to listen to your valid points? There's a lot of that in the air presently and any effort on your part to sway opinion falls in that category. Most important in this mix, avoid arguing with your mate over matters philosophical or political and curb the instinct to tell the children a concept proposed is wrong. Apply the other people think of it this way, or if you do all the math the answer looks like... Yeah, diplomacy. Though you like a rousing verbal stir, how about some silent walks instead?

CAPRICORN (December 23-January 20)

The push to getting involved in social causes, political issues and global concerns rises like the Mercury in a desert thermometer mid-day. Something gets under your skin and catches your attention. Notice the ire. Maybe the words would be as strong as "boiling blood." Work it. Feel it. Allow it to surge through you and evolve into its natural outcome - motivation. If a news story about voting fraud captured you, volunteer for the polls next month. If you feel incensed about delayed humanitarian aid, assume a role as an expediter. As these larger issues magnify, remember your nest. Your family and mate need attention, too. A bit of a balancing act emerges. The competing priorities easily sort if you think of this a juggling jobs scenario. You have the energy. Take your natural time/energy skill set and budget where to put what when.

AQUARIUS (January 21-February 18)

Get involved. Putting your irritation into some sort of useful solution makes everyone feel a whole heap better about things. No doubt you're agitated by all sorts of goings on out there in the world. Figure what you can do and get doing it. We know two things about your nature. One, you maintain firm opinions. Two, if you consider all the facts and apply your unique, oblique spin, you likely come up with different conclusions than most people. With those two thoughts considered, determine where you might be able to do the most good. A most interesting thing results. When it comes to family and mate, you cultivate new time warping techniques for life's automatic necessities and getting out there in the big world and stirring it up stirs up a heap of energy inside. At the end of a day of changing consciousness in the world, you know what time it is.

PISCES (February 19-March 20)

Most likely unusually high levels of rumination have been in play for nearly a fortnight. However, now is not the time to lie in the hammock watching wispy clouds dancing across a blue sky when there are other things to be done. We're not talking fiddling grasshoppers here. No siree, this is about you putting pen to paper, pushing the record button on that nifty digital device and freeing the flow of fertile ideas surging about in your brain. There is something to be made of this that extends far beyond putting a poem or two in the PTA newsletter. This is the time for all good Pisces to come to the aid of their natural creativity. Apply the creativity relief act. When you enact your creativity, not only do you feel relief, your energy being intensifies and it shows in your aura. Do you have any idea how delectable you appear when your aura shines?
